Miguel Matos - Provocation made into perfume

Miguel Matos is one of the most unique and influential figures in contemporary art perfumery. A Portuguese journalist, curator, and creator, he dedicated more than two decades to art and culture before transforming his passion for aromas into his own unique language. His work lies at the intersection of the conceptual and the emotional, where perfume becomes thought, matter, and provocation.

Editor and columnist for Fragrantica.com and Fragrantica.com.br, Matos has been a key voice in the criticism and promotion of niche perfumery. As a curator, he has explored the links between art and scent in exhibitions such as Synesthesia Project / Per Fummum (Lisbon, 2015) and Making the Body Think (Almada and Los Angeles, 2017). He is the author of the books Artistas Portugueses em Discurso Direto and O Zodíaco Perfumado, as well as numerous texts on contemporary art.

As a perfumer, his style is characterized by boldness, symbolic depth, and a constant desire to push boundaries. Through his own line, Miguel Matos Perfumes, and in collaboration with houses such as Adar, Azman, Acampora, Calaj, Comporta, Der Duft, Manos Gerakinis, Nishane, Renier Perfumes, Rito, and Sarah Baker, he has developed an olfactory language that challenges the limits of beauty and what is possible.

His talent has been recognized internationally: winner of the Art and Olfaction Awards with Young Hearts (2020) and Tabaco Esmeraldo (2021), in addition to receiving honorable mentions for Ocaña (2023) and Búcaro Royal (2024). He was also a finalist on several occasions for the Fragrance Foundation Awards for his editorial excellence.

For NBITOR, Miguel Matos has created an exceptional collection of fragrances that encapsulate his freest and most emotional vision: Akelarre, Babieca, Búcaro Royal, Erauso, Hombre de Palo, Laban Arruz, and Ocaña. In these works, Iberian history and identity converse with sensuality, rebellion, and art. Each creation reflects a distinct perspective on culture, materials, and emotion, composing an olfactory universe that transcends the boundaries of perfume.

Renier R. Mendez - Art Made Perfume

Renier Méndez is a singular creator: painter, perfumer, and sensory storyteller. Born in Cuba and trained in both art and perfumery, he has built a universe where emotion is translated into color, texture, and aroma. His work moves between introspection and intensity, between restrained beauty and the passion that burns beneath the surface.

After years dedicated to painting and art direction, Méndez found in perfumery a new language to express his vision of the world. Thus was born his brand Renier Perfumes, where each fragrance is conceived as an invisible canvas: a story painted with noble raw materials, memories, and contrasts.

Her style is unmistakable: profound, emotional, and with a narrative soul. Her perfumes are portraits of the human soul, imbued with symbolism, beauty, and vulnerability. She has collaborated with internationally renowned perfumers and was a finalist in the Art and Olfaction Awards (2020) with her fragrance Behique, solidifying her position as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary artistic perfumery.

For NBITOR, Renier Méndez signs Nuevalos, a creation that reflects his most poetic and sensory vision, uniting history, emotion and matter in a perfume that speaks of the encounter between worlds.

Daniel Josier - The alchemy of experience

Trained at the prestigious ISIPCA in Versailles and a disciple of the legendary Jean-Claude Ellena, Daniel Josier is one of the leading names in contemporary Spanish perfumery. His style combines technical precision, artistic sensibility, and a constant pursuit of emotion as his raw material.

She began her career at Haarmann & Reimer (now Symrise), where she worked with brands such as L'Oréal, Puig, LVMH, Unilever, and Sara Lee. Later, at Iberchem and Expressions Parfumées, she led the creation of perfumes for international houses like Prada, Valentino, Yves Rocher, and L'Occitane, establishing a career marked by rigor and creativity.

In 2014, he decided to found his own brand, Daniel Josier, a project where creative freedom becomes an olfactory language. This was followed by History in Drops, a tribute to memory and time, and Signature, his most experimental line, where each fragrance is born from pure emotion.

Josier has collaborated with renowned designer houses, contributing his signature style: a contemporary elegance with emotional depth.

For NBITOR, Daniel Josier signs Santalla and Taraq, two creations that reflect his mastery of olfactory duality and his ability to transform matter into emotion.
